Authorities say they ve disrupted a drug syndicate with links to a Mexican cartel.
Eight men were arrested on drugs charges today after searches in Auckland, Northland and Bay of Plenty .
It s alleged they planned to bring in cocaine and methamphetamine in shipping containers.
Massey University Associate professor Chris Wilkins says it s an unusual source - with Asia much closer and a more common supplier.
He says it may have come out of existing relationships, with cocaine offered as a possibility, related to existing methamphetamine trade.
